Danny Trejo and Marcella Arguello along with Latino USA host Maria Hinojosa
()

Latino USA and KPCC are rolling out the red carpet for a night celebrating Latinos, Hollywood, and everything LA!

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and host Maria Hinojosa (she/her) takes the stage in downtown Los Angeles at the historic Theatre at Ace Hotel to celebrate this city and its rich Latino culture. She’ll be joined by actor and LA icon Danny Trejo (he/him) to talk about building a career in entertainment, showing up for his community both on and off-screen, and what it means to be a proud Angeleno. LA-based, Salvadoran-American comedian Marcella Arguello (she/her) will perform a live set, along with some special cameos from you—our Latino USA listeners. Don’t miss it!

Latino USA is distributed by PRX and can be heard on 89.3 KPCC on Sundays at 6:00 p.m.

This event is part of KPCC’s Public Radio Palooza, a year-long celebration of all the ways public radio brings us together, featuring some of the most legendary and innovative creators in the public media landscape.

ABOUT MARIA HINOJOSA
Maria Hinojosa dreamt of a space where she could create independent, multimedia journalism that explores and gives a critical voice to the diverse American experience. She made that dream a reality in 2010 when she created Futuro Media, an independent, nonprofit newsroom based in Harlem, NYC with the mission to create multimedia content from a POC perspective. As Anchor and Executive Producer of the Peabody Award-winning show Latino USA, distributed by PRX, and Co-Host of Futuro Media’s award-winning political podcast In The Thick, Hinojosa has informed millions about the changing cultural and political landscape in America and abroad.

ABOUT DANNY TREJO
Danny Trejo has developed a prolific career in the entertainment industry with a hard-earned and atypical road to success. From years of imprisonment to helping troubled youth battle drug addictions, from acting to producing, and now on to restaurant ventures, Trejo’s name, face, and achievements are well recognized in Hollywood and beyond. Trejo has starred in dozens of films and tv shows including Desperado, Machete, had recurring roles on Sons of Anarchy, King of the Hill, Breaking Bad, and The Flash. Most recently, Trejo can be seen in the role of Rancor Keeper in The Book of Boba Fett airing on Disney+.

If you didn’t think Trejo was busy enough, Danny shares his love of food with the world through his Trejo's Tacos empire of four locations in the Los Angeles area, which include the Original Farmer’s Market and the newly opened Santa Monica location. Despite Danny’s impressive list of credits, it is his continuous role as a devoted father of three and an intervention counselor that bring him the most satisfaction. Danny’s colorful life and prolific career are also chronicled in his memoir Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood released in July 2021.

ABOUT MARCELLA ARGUELLO
Marcella is the host and booker of Women Crush Wednesdays, which happens every first Wednesday at The Hollywood Improv Lab. Her debut album, The Woke Bully, was named One Of The Best Comedy Albums of 2019 by NPR program Bullseye. Last April, MSN.com listed Marcella as number 10 in their list of "Top female comedians working in film and television today" alongside Amy Schumer, Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong. She wrote for the renewed Netflix series Bill Nye Saves The World and was a writer on the first season of the James Corden-produced show, Drop The Mic on TBS.
